For Kids

Ah, so there you are. Glad you could make it. Shall I put some tea on? No? Just want to get straight into the poems, then?

Here are ten of my favourite recent poems. I picked the number 10 because it’s a nice round number. Well, the ’0′ part of it is, anyway. Although it’s a bit oval for my liking. And also because Number Ten is where the Prime Minister lives, and I’m just as important as he is, wouldn’t you agree?

Enjoy these poems, they’re free to look at!*

*Please note that all poems are copyright John Rice 2010, and that I will bite your Grandma’s ankles unless you seek permission to use them.

I welcome anthology requests, almost as much as I welcome a pat on the head and a treat for being a good boy.

  1. Dear John
When I was little I came to a book signing of Bears Don’t Like Bananas – and my mother has the book in a box somewhere (I have since left home) and I’m trying to locate the poem of the boy asking his dad for a glass of water to recite to my little godson as I really enjoyed the poem when I was little.
Unfortunately we can’t locate the book (although we do have it as you signed it – the book signing was in your house – my grandparents are June and George Newson). Is there anyway you could email me the poem?
    Hope to hear from you.
    Warm regards
    CARLY NEWSON

I am so sorry, I didn’t pick up your message until yesterday…I am not very good at checking the messages on my website!!! Nevertheless, I hope you eventually found the words of ‘A Minute to Midnight’ and that you enjoyed competing in the Festival. I really enjoyed myself when I visited King Goosey (chief of the gooses!) 15. Hi John I have just been reading through a poetry book that you signed when you came to my Primary school in 1982 this is because I have head it to my two daughters one of whom is the age I was when you came to school I know it was a long time ago but do you remember ZOOMBALLOOMALLISTIC it still makes me laugh and my girls have nearly learnt most of the poems word for word( short ones) I am now a govenor of my daughters school on Dover Kent and wondered if we could keep in touch as I know that every year the school celebrates national book day I would like to ask to the head of school if I could arrange a meeting /assembly with you if you still that sort of thing

A happy reader of your earlier work and await your reply
